We are incredibly chuffed to welcome Brighton’s favourite spectacled DJ duo, the ever lovely Affy and Ali from Go Bang to the DSD decks at Ohso Social this Friday. Here’s a DSD quickie with the boys which will ensure, as someone must of said at some point, you go forth and go bang!
So what have you been up since you lasted graced our decks at Brighton’s Ohso Social Bar? Still keeping things street level in Brighton whilst enjoying playing to our crowd for the 5th year now. We have become a bit more selective about how we push our parties. The venue and the crowd are far more important than mere numbers. Pleased to say it’s worked a treat and has enabled some memorable off radar parties at The Globe and The Greendoor Store. Musically we have kept true to our roots, disco and house all in the mix just like day one.
What festival / gig action are you up to this summer season? Affy’s going to Croatia for Suncebeat and Lovebox and we are in the planning stages of a potential 3 day mansion party to mark the end if summer but not playing at any festivals this year, apart from Pride that is. We have come to appreciate that a dance floor in our own city holds just as much or even more excitement as say a sound system at Glastonbury or a boat in Croatia however those kind of knees up would be fun to have a pop at at least once or twice just as long as we could bring a few friends.
DSD has a special place in your heart because? Simply because the crowd come to dance and enjoy the party as soon as they get into Ohso. It’s also a little treat for me / us as our usual crowd haven’t found out about the vibe first hand so we hope some of them venture a little further than The Greendoor Store and The Globe to experience what we experience with Team DSD.
What can we expect from your DSD set? Enthusiasm with plenty of cuddling between us both if the vibes are high on the floor. Musically, well people will have to come and find out 😉
What makes you go bang? Affy’s dancing and our combined choice in eyewear
If you could transport one club night from history to the present day what would it be and why? (Ali) The Loft that David Mancuso hosted when disco was getting it’s real underground blueprint in gear. It’s also a shame that those kind of private happenings don’t exists so much anymore in Brighton like they used to. (Affy) for me it has to be Larry Levan and the Paradise Garage. Muncuso was about the aural experience, but for me Levan was about the effect a record had on the dance floor. He also understood it wasn’t about the DJ or the club or the crowd. You needed all 3 to work together. I was lucky enough to go to the Garage reunion last year. There’s video of me dancing in a bass bin somewhere.
This is the summer of disco. Discuss. Disco is always making a comeback but actually hasn’t really ever gone away. We were part of the last uprising around 8 years ago that was primarily ignored by the mainstream music press at that time until it was well underway. I think Daft Punk’s has helped push the scene forward again. But we quite like keeping things fairly out of the spot light in terms of mainstream knowledge. It keeps it special.
If you were onboard the international space station right now which song would you perform and beam back to earth? Can Your Feel It by Mr Fingers, kind of like the idea of how it would sound next to all the footage of outter space including Affy in a mirror ball space suit
Dirty or disco? Disco
Sunset or sunrise? Sunset
